Four new computers have been donated to the LTS library by the Diasporawerk of the SELK. The donation was facilitated by Prof. Dr. Werner Klän, who is the chairperson of the Diasporawerk. He currently is teaching Lutheran Confessions II (Smalcald Articles and Formula of Concord) at LTS, and realized the need for new computers, as the current ones are old and very slow. The old computers will still be used though. They have been moved to the student dorms, so that students can do their assignments even when the library is closed. In the library, the computers are used for Computer Literacy classes, for research and general use by the students! On the photo are Prof. Klän, librarian Margarette van Zyl, and some of the students in the Computer Literacy class. We are very grateful for this very useful donation!

Last week, we welcomed a visitor from the USA to our seminary. He lived in South Africa from 2014-2017. Before that, he was a medical missionary in Uganda. In Uganda, he learned what a vital role a seminary plays in the life of the church. The visitor (and his wife) have recently become Lutherans. They have been Christians all their lives, but becoming Lutheran has transformed their faith as they share in the joy of the gospel. As I gave him a short tour of the campus and told him a little bit about the work we are doing and about our students, his heart was touched. He asked for a slide show presentation about the seminary which he could share with two LCMS congregations back home in the hope that they will financially support our seminary.

About two weeks ago, a similar visit took place. We were visited by an LCMS pastor and his vicar. They were also moved when learning about the seminary and its students. They immediately went and bought food supplies for the seminary and pledged to support the seminary.

Our seminary is dependent on donations. And it is absolutely amazing to see how God unexpectedly sends people here who after seeing the work done by the seminary start supporting it. We are grateful for such unexpected visits. “Praise the Lord! Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!” (Psalm 106:1).

During the last couple of weeks, some upgrades were made to the LTS campus. The roofs of both the chapel and Luther House have been repainted with a rubber paint, which not only looks good, but also should stop the roofs from leaking. The bathrooms of the chapel have also been upgraded by members of the Evangelical Lutheran Congregation (ELC) which uses the LTS chapel for its Sunday divine services. We are grateful for these improvements to the campus!

Today (March 25) is the last day of the first academic quarter of 2021 at LTS. We will break for the Easter Holiday and lectures will commence on April 13. We look back with gratitude to all the blessings, financial support, clothing donations, words of encouragement and prayers we have received. Thank you to you all. A blessed Easter to all the friends of LTS in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ who says: “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die” (John 14:25-26).

Donations received https://www.lts.ac.za/donations-received-2/ Mon, 22 Feb 2021 08:02:28 +0000 https://www.lts.ac.za/?p=2733 Last week Thursday (February 18), LTS received clothing and toiletries donations. Some students, especially from abroad, do not always know what to pack when coming to LTS, or do not have enough clothing for their three year stay at LTS. These donations help them greatly. Many thanks to you. May God bless you.
