In the USA most non-profit organizations receive the majority of its donations in December. At LTS, December traditionally is the month with the lowest donations received. Let’s try to change it this year. Here are some of our major achievements:

  • LTS now is a fully accredited and registered Private Higher Education Instituaion.
  • LTS has graduated nine students this year from South Africa, Malawi and Ethiopia.
  • One former student has successfully completed his MA (Theology) at Concordia Theological Seminary Fort Wayne. Another student is currently enrolled in the same programme. This testifies to the high academic standards of LTS.
  • Former students continue doing wonderful work proclaiming the Gospel, even in war-torn countries like Sudan and the DRC.

To donate, please click on this link and use the pay now button: Ways to Support – Lutheran Theological Seminary in Tshwane.

A blessed Christmas to you all, and thank you for all support in 2025! God bless you all!

On Friday, 7 June 2024, Dr Detlev Schulz and Rev. Samuel Wirgau completed a two week intensive course at LTS. Dr Schulz serves as lecturer at the Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, USA, as well as secretary-general of the ILC. Dr Schulz was raised in South Africa, and his father was the first bishop of the LCSA. One of the houses on the seminary is named after his father. He was teaching on Anthropology and Sin.

Rev. Wirgau is the senior pastor of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and School (LCMS). He also serves on the board of the Saint Philip Lutheran Mission Society (SPLMS), our faithful donors from the USA. You can support the work of the SPLMS here. Rev. Wirgau taught Christian Dogmatics, using the book “Saving Truth” by Kurt Marquart as basis.

It was a great privilege having these two guest lecturers teaching our students and spending time with our lecturing staff. We were all blessed by their presence. As LTS, we thank them for coming to our seminary, and towards their role in training faithful confessional Lutheran pastors at our seminary. May God continue to bless the work they are doing.

Below are two more photos. On one, the LTS lecturing staff is having a coffee break with our guests outside in the sun, as it is winter in South Africa now. On the other present, student Daniel Wowa presented small gifts to our guests at the closing braai.

Last week, we welcomed a visitor from the USA to our seminary. He lived in South Africa from 2014-2017. Before that, he was a medical missionary in Uganda. In Uganda, he learned what a vital role a seminary plays in the life of the church. The visitor (and his wife) have recently become Lutherans. They have been Christians all their lives, but becoming Lutheran has transformed their faith as they share in the joy of the gospel. As I gave him a short tour of the campus and told him a little bit about the work we are doing and about our students, his heart was touched. He asked for a slide show presentation about the seminary which he could share with two LCMS congregations back home in the hope that they will financially support our seminary.

About two weeks ago, a similar visit took place. We were visited by an LCMS pastor and his vicar. They were also moved when learning about the seminary and its students. They immediately went and bought food supplies for the seminary and pledged to support the seminary.

Our seminary is dependent on donations. And it is absolutely amazing to see how God unexpectedly sends people here who after seeing the work done by the seminary start supporting it. We are grateful for such unexpected visits. “Praise the Lord! Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!” (Psalm 106:1).

Today (March 25) is the last day of the first academic quarter of 2021 at LTS. We will break for the Easter Holiday and lectures will commence on April 13. We look back with gratitude to all the blessings, financial support, clothing donations, words of encouragement and prayers we have received. Thank you to you all. A blessed Easter to all the friends of LTS in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ who says: “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die” (John 14:25-26).
