Passing of Rev Mbongeni John Nkambule

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved lecturer at LTS, Rev Mbongeni John Nkambule, who passed away on 15 April 2023.

Rev Nkambule was a highly respected and dedicated member of our faculty who touched the lives of many students throughout his time at the Seminary. His commitment to the Lutheran Church and its Confessions was evident in all of his classes, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew them.

Rev Nkambule had served on the faculty of LTS since 2011. He was appointed seminary registrar in 2021.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time. May they find comfort in the in the promise of the resurrection of the body and life everlasting for the sake of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour.

Rest in peace, John. Your contributions to our Seminary and the Lutheran community will never be forgotten.

LTS at Mission Festival in Fairlands, Johannesburg

On Sunday, July 31, LTS was invited to the mission festival of the St Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church Fairland, FELSISA. LTS students and staff participated in the divine service: Rev. Mintesinot Birru preached on verses from Romans 10, student chairperson Mpho Moema did the readings, and the students sang two hymns. After the service, we were served with delicious soup and had the opportunity to interact with the congregation members. It was indeed a blessed day. We thank the Fairland congregation for inviting us!

Final 2021 Intensives

After our international lecturers were unable to travel to LTS in 2021, local pastors Rev. Chris Weber (Mission of Lutheran Churches) and Rev. Thomas Beneke agreed to teach a two-week intensive from October 11-22. We are very grateful for their input. Rev. Weber is teaching the Apology of the Augsburg Confession. Rev. Beneke is presenting a catechesis practical.

Last night, Mr. Minesinot Birru graciously invited our guest lecturers and academic staff to the local Ethiopian restaurant where we enjoyed a wonderful meal.

LTS lecturers at Mission Festival in Lüneburg

On May 22-23, LTS lecturers Rev. John Nkambule and Rector Heinz Hiestermann visited the Lüneburg congregation (FELSISA) for its Mission Festival. During the Pentecost service, Rev. Nkambule preached on Genesis 11:1-9. Rector Hiestermann held a presentation about the LTS. We thank the Lüneburg congregation for the invitation and their hospitality.
