LTS faculty members Rev. Mbongeni John Nkambule was able to attend the symposium recently held on the campus of our American sister seminary, Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, IN. Rev. Nkambule is also currently enrolled in the Ph.D. program at CTS. Having completed his required courses, this trip enabled Rev. Nkambule to take and pass his comprehensive examinations. He is now busy putting together his dissertation proposal. Once accepted, he will embark on the final stage of his studies – writing the doctoral dissertation.

In addition, the trip made it possible for Rev. Nkambule to receive books generously donated for LTS students by LCMS Disaster Relief and by the Office of President Matthew Harrison. Rev. Nkambule was willing to transport the books to the LTS in his personal luggage. He will be teaching the class on Diakonia (mercy work) to LTS students this semester for which the books were needed.

Thank you to all donors and to Rev. Nkambule for his gallant transportation efforts!

On Monday, 19 November 2018, Rev. Abraham Segoe and Mr. Mathibe from the Mabopane Ev. Lutheran Congregation of the LCSA brought groceries to the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Tshwane as a donation from their congregation. Head of the LTS Kitchen Mrs. Emily Ngubeni received the donation on behalf of the LTS. The Mabopane congregation of the LCSA is located on the northern outskirts of Pretoria.

Rev. Segoe has longstanding connections to the LTS – one of the LTS residences is named “Segoe House” in honour of Rev. Segoe’s father, and in the early 2000s, Rev. Segoe himself served as LTS treasurer for a time.

On behalf of the LTS students and staff, we would like to say “Thank you” for the generous donations received.

Rector Winterle of the LTS took the opportunity to share Lutheran resources in the SeTswana language with the visitors – copies of the Smalcald Articles, the Formula of Concord, and the entire Book of Concord in SeTswana, made available by the Lutheran Heritage Foundation (LHF).

Rev. Segoe, LTS Student Charles Tsatsi, and Mr. Mathibe from Mabopane Parish of the LCSA

On Friday, 19 October, LCSA Bishop S. Modise Maragelo served as preacher during matins at the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Tshwane. Afterwards, Bishop Maragelo handed to Rector Winterle three sets of the new systematics volumes recently published by Concordia Publishing House for the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, our partner church body in the USA. The dogmatics volumes are a gift from the International Lutheran Council (ILC) in the person of Dr. Albert B. Collver, assistant to LCMS President Matthew Harrison. Bishop Maragelo kindly brought the books back with him in his personal luggage after the recent ILC conference in Antwerpen, Belgium. These sets are intended for the LTS library for student reference and also for use by LTS staff members. The FELSISA also received sets of the same volumes donated by the ILC, brought over by Bishop Dieter Reinstorf.

LTS staff and students are very grateful for these very generous donations and look forward to drawing from them and putting them to good use.
