]]>The library expansion has been desired for many years, but for several reasons, it has only now become possible to go ahead with the project. The St. Philip Lutheran Mission Society has played a decisive role in raising the funds and spearheading the project. In addition, the Rocky Mountain District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod has also pledged support for this and various other projects in anticipation of the accreditation of the academic program of the seminary. We are very grateful for this and all support! May the Lord bless the expansion and other projects planned for the coming months.

It might seem somewhat redundant to say this, but a tertiary education institution without textbooks is a little like a fish without water. For much of this year, the LTS has had to get by without textbooks, due to financial constraints. Staff and students at LTS are all the more grateful to the Saint Philip Lutheran Mission Society for their wonderful generosity in procuring textbooks for the second semester at LTS. Students are shown here receiving with open hands and hearts “Prepare the Way of the Lord” by Steinmann and Lessing, “Church and Office” by CFW Walther, “Christian Dogmatics III” by F Pieper, “Ethics of Sex” ed. by G. Grobien, “Pastoral Care under the Cross” by R. Eyer, and “Lutheran Catechesis” by P. Bender. Words do not suffice to express the full extent of our gratitude. A word of thanks also to the heavy lifters who brought the books back from the USA in their luggage (Rector Winterle, Rev. Nkambule, Bishop Maragelo).

The two African churchmen visited members of the St. Philip Lutheran Mission Society (SPLMS) in Elmhurst, IL on Saturday, August 11. The SPLMS supports the work of the LTS in South Africa. Pictured here are Rev. Anthony Oliphant, who has lectured at the LTS in the recent past, and Rev. Chris Maronde, chairman of the SPLMS.
Rector Winterle and Bishop Maragelo also attended the Lutheran Hour Ministries Conference in Milwaukee, WI. Here they met up with Dr. Kurt Buchholz, President and CEO of LHM, and they also encountered some familiar faces at the conference.

A meeting was held with Dr. Laabs of the Lutheran Education Association – LEA, and representatives from LEASA (LEA South Africa)
On Tuesday, August 7, Rector Dr. Winterle and Bishop Maragelo had a very congenial and productive meeting with LCMS President Rev. Dr. Matthew Harrison, his assistant, Rev. Dr. Albert B. Collver, who also serves as Executive Secretary of the International Lutheran Council (ILC), and LCMS Chief Mission Officer Rev. Kevin Robson. The two South African representatives also met up with Rev. Timothy Scharr of the Southern Illinois District (SID), which has worked closely together with the LTS in the past.
May the Lord God grant His continued blessings upon the trip. Rector Winterle and Bishop Maragelo are to return to South Africa on August 16.
