The South-East Cell of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (FELSISA) decided to join hands and solicit donations to extend, renovate, and refurbish the LTS Guest Rooms. A sponsor from St. Paul’s generously funded the cost to have the rooms stripped and reconfigured. Instead of one room with an adjoining bathroom, the layout was extended so that there are now two guest bedrooms leading into the living room and bathroom. The bathroom itself was retiled and new fixtures were installed. The work of cell group was to clear out adjoining trees, address structural challenges, and apply two coats of paint to the interior.

Under the leadership of Mr. Günther Heyman, the cell group met on Saturday, 16. February on the LTS premises. Together with 9 volunteers from the LTS student body, the day was spent with hard work. Mr. Hugo Meyer of the LTS Board of Directors graciously donated meat for a very welcome braai over the lunch hour.

The project was intended to augment the professional services of Mr. Stephan Albers of Kliprich Construction, who is responsible for the entire refurbishment.

In addition to the renovation costs and to the donated labour and services, the group is still soliciting additional donations to furnish the guest rooms. The following items are requested:

  • A sofa/couch
  • Two bedside pedestals
  • Cupboards/closets
  • A desk
  • Blankets, pillows, and bedsheets

Photos of the interior will be posted once the project is complete! Thank you to ALL who worked so hard to pull off the joint project.

The entryway to the LTS has long been in need of attention. After funds were raised to improve the main driveway and walkway leading into the seminary premises by two sister congregations, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church up the street and the Evangelical Lutheran Congregation in Arcadia (ELC), a work day was called at the LTS for Saturday, 21 October. A beautiful spring day dawned, with the promised rain holding off for long enough to allow a very productive work day. Seminary board members, staff, and students pitched in together with volunteers from both St. Paul’s and the ELC.

The work was kindly coordinated and supervised by building contractor Mr. Stephan Albers from St. Paul’s, who donated the use of his equipment as well as his own labour. In addition, several members of St. Paul’s donated the use of their equipment.

The project called for the remnants and foundations of the old dividing wall separating the chapel property from the rest of the LTS grounds, crumbling concrete, and rubble to be dug up and removed. Afterwards, the soil was leveled and sloped for water drainage. Finally, Mr. Albers’ company, Kliprich Construction, has now poured slabs of new concrete to create a new entryway. Once the cement has settled and hardened, and once expansion joints have been cut, the new entryway will be open for business! Thank you to ALL who participated and who made this day possible!

Following the work day, a braai was held with delicious meat to replenish the energy levels of the many tired workers. What a feast. Thank you to the kind donors of the meat!

Some very welcome donations were received at the LTS today and will of course be put to good use straight away. They come at a much needed point in time. Water bottles, tea, coffee, and sugar were donated by Pastors Lugojolo and Shuttleworth. Beans, oranges, and clothes were received from Ronnie and Ilse Meyer of St. Paul’s up the road. The Meyers have also offered to host Prof. Dr. Werner Klän from the SELK during his upcoming visit to the LTS for an intensive on the Formula of Concord at the end of the month. Thank you very much for your generosity! May the Lord bless you.

On Trinity Sunday, May 27, 2018, members of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church confessed the Athanasian Creed after sharing in the Lord’s Supper, thereby giving expression to their unity with all true Christians worldwide. After the divine service, the members proceeded to “share out” – to donate gifts of food and other supplies for use in the kitchen at the Lutheran Theological Seminary down the road. We at LTS are very grateful for these gifts. As we share in these gifts of benevolence, we give thanks to the Lord and share in the faith together with our brothers and sisters in Christ, receiving instruction and being equipped to “share out” the faith in tangible ways ourselves. Thanks be to the triune God for his indescribable mercy!
