Most years, LTS receives more admission requests than the number of students it can take in. In 2024, requests from 12 different Lutheran Church Bodies in Africa were received. Also this year 2026, there is a shortage of sponsors for students. Most of these students are from financially struggling church bodies who cannot contribute towards education their pastors. LTS would like to train these students by offering quality confessional Lutheran formation. To adopt a student from another African country costs around R65,000 (USD 4,000) p.a. This consists of flights and visa costs (R25,000 or USD 1,570), medical insurance (R10,000 or USD 600), tuition fee and stipend (R30,000 or USD 1,830 for both). Part-donations are welcome. Students spend three years in total at LTS.
Alternatively, the interest on a once-off donation of $50,000 will suffice to support students for many years. In case of such a donation, a scholarship will be named after the sponsor, if the sponsor wishes.
Right now there are students waiting to be “adopted.” In faith, these seminarians desire to come to LTS to prepare for the service as multipliers of the Lutheran Church in Africa. Now you can encourage them with your prayers and help make their preparation financially possible.
Altough many donors give towards the general expenses of the seminary, adopting a student gives you the oppertunity to built up a personal relationship with a student. As an Adopt-A-Student sponsor, you can expect to hear from your student frequently. While students wishing to receive Adopt-A-Student scholarships are asked to write to their sponsors every academic semester, they are encouraged to stay in touch with their sponsors even more frequently during the academic year, and even after they have completed their studies.
